Einar Þorsteinsson
Mayor of Reykjavik

Einar Þorsteinsson is the Mayor of Reykjavík City. Einar is the City Council Chair of the Progressive Party and the party’s first Mayor. He assumed office at the beginning of 2024.
Einar was born on December 24, 1978, at Landspítali Hospital in Reykjavík. He grew up in Kópavogur, the son of Soffía Ingibjörg Guðmundsdóttir, a Project Manager in the payroll department of Landspítali, and Þorsteinn Einarsson, a former human resources manager in Kópavogur.
Einar attended Reykjavík Junior College and studied political science and public administration MPA at the University of Iceland, as well as exchange studies at the University of Miami. During his university years, Einar was the chair of Politica, the association of political science students, and served on the board of Vaka.
In 2004, Einar joined the National Broadcasting Service (RÚV), starting as a sports journalist but mostly worked as a news reporter, news presenter, and program director for “Kastljós,” a news and current affairs show on television. Einar led the election television coverage for the parliamentary, municipal, and presidential elections for many years.
Einar resigned from his role at RÚV early in 2022 when he joined the Progressive Party and ran as its lead candidate in Reykjavík for the March 2022 municipal elections. In those elections, the Progressive Party secured four City Councilors.
Einar lives with his family in the Seljahverfi neighborhood. He is married to Milla Ósk Magnúsdóttir, a Lawyer and assistant to the Minister of Health. He has two daughters from a previous relationship, Auður Berta and Soffía Kristín. Einar and Milla together have a son, Emil Magnús.

Before that Ásmundur Einar served as Minister of Social Affairs and Children from 2017 to 2021 and during his time as a minister, his mind has been set on furthering children’s rights and opportunities.

Leandro Schclarek Mulinari is a criminologist. Since 2024, he holds the position as assistant professor in social work focused on policing at Södertörn university.

Margrét Lilja Guðmundsdóttir

Margrét is the Chief Knowledge Officer at Planet Youth (PY); her role involves working towards achieving PY’s global objectives and designing and implementing the Planet Youth knowledge transfer strategy.

Dr. María Rún Bjarnadóttir

Dr. María Rún Bjarnadóttir is the acting Director of Police Training and Professional Development at the Icelandic National Commissioner for Police, and the Vice Chair of the Icelandic Media Commission.

Oddný Sturludóttir

Oddný Sturludóttir is an adjunct lecturer and PhD student at the University of Iceland’s School of Education. Her passion and research focus primarily delves into leisure studies, leadership, and inter-professional collaboration within the realm of education.

Lone Strand

Police superintendent Lone Strand has been a police for over 20 years, and all this time she has worked with crime prevention. The first 18 years with youngsters in the east of Oslo, in a multicultural area with various challenges.
